To truly be for the people and by the people, government at every level should do whatever it can to limit barriers to entry, participation and information. Justyn strongly supports:
Fostering local civic engagement in Des Moines’ active neighborhood associations and resurrecting dormant ones
Making sure city boards and commissions are properly and equitably staffed through partnerships with local businesses and organizations
Making City Council meetings more accessible to the public
Being entirely remote creates a significant barrier for those without access to the Internet
The current meeting starting time is a significant barrier to workers, especially those that commute outside of the city for work.
Citizens, journalists, and activists should be able to access public records in a timely and affordable manner, including any public business conducted on private devices
